Q&A with Steven Bruner

**Q: What do you think your first impression is to others?**
**A:** *laughing* Yikes, did you talk to an old therapist of mine or something? Coming in hot with the deep questions, huh? Okay, well, I think people perceive me as goofy, eccentric at times, and compassionate. I say that because “goofy” and a little “out there” is what I want people to see. That’s the person who’s funny, caring, but also a little mysterious.

**Q: Not on the list, but I want to follow up: the person you want seen—are there other sides we don’t see?**
**A:** If I answer this truthfully, we could be here all day—and I’m hungry. *laughing* The short answer is yes. I’ve had to adapt to the world around me for as long as I can remember. That’s caused me to split into different versions of myself depending on the setting.

When I’ve tried to explain this to others, it’s hard for them to understand. They only see Side A because they’ve never been in—or wouldn’t allow themselves to be in—a situation where they’d meet Side B. There’s the professional me, the at-home me, and the social me. Occasionally, there’s some overlap, and people notice it. It might shock them because they think it’s “out of character,” but really, it’s just me adapting to the situation. I’m only *slightly* nuts, okay? *laughing* Let’s move on to something lighter—like my favorite color!

**Q: What’s your favorite color?**
**A:** *laughing* Blue. Green is a close second, and orange comes in third.

**Q: But if you had to choose just one?**
**A:** Blue. You’re kind of killing my vibe today. Maybe we should grab a few margaritas and come back to this? *Yassss.*

**Q:** Okay, now that you got me buzzed and I can’t drive for a few hours…

(*Uncontrollable laughter between the two of them because Steven started laughing for no apparent reason.*)

**Q: Favorite social media account you follow?**
**A:** *Cats of Instagram.*

**Q: Pronouns?**
**A:** He/Him.

**Q: How’s the love life? Dating?**
**A:** Extremely single and looking for a husband—but not investing much there. Hence, *Cats of Instagram.*

**Q: Big spoon or little spoon?**
**A:** Definitely big spoon. But don’t expect me to know how cars work. They just go fast. Zooom.

**Q: Night in or night out?**
**A:** It depends. The club scene isn’t for me anymore, so most nights I prefer staying in. That said, I occasionally like to drive around on Sunday mornings blasting Lady Gaga’s *Judas* as loud as possible while circling local churches—if the weather’s nice.

**Q: Favorite artist?**
**A:** Taylor Swift! I’ve followed her since *American Idol* and will always love and respect the incredible person she is, inside and out. No one in this world could achieve what she has without losing their mind. We won’t see another musical genius like her in our lifetime.

**Q: Do you drink?**
**A:** A nice box wine for special occasions—or a good scotch to sip on.

Thank you to everyone who showed up yesterday and downloaded a copy of my book! I hope it leaves you with at least one question that makes you want to run free, pop the hood open, take out something mysterious, and see if the car still starts. Go nuts.

About that very large emoji —it was a fat-thumbed error somehow, but we’re leaving it there. Why? Because we’re embracing and celebrating our imperfections.

Speaking of imperfections, let’s talk about that...

Starting this blog post feels like an act of rebellion against time itself. I’ve been meaning to write this for a while, but life kept getting in the way. Yesterday, I was busy promoting my book on socials (it’s free on Kindle today, by the way—sign up for their monthly service, cancel anytime, haha). For the announcement, I decided to include some bonus content: family pictures spanning the years. Each photo carries a...
